Membership Information
Winter 2024-25 is fast approaching; do you want to be in the know with all of the important weather details to get through another LONG winter? Well, look no further. I am once again offering a winter storm subscription, BUT not just for the Avalon. Based on interest from previous years, I will now cover the Burin Peninsula, Clarenville, and the Bonavista Peninsula, in addition to the Avalon.
These updates contain important information, including storm timelines, precipitation type changeover times, snowfall maps, and detailed amounts, that can help the public and businesses plan things accordingly, and ensure everyone remains safe.
Here is what’s included with the subscription:
- Detailed write-up on significant weather systems expected to affect Eastern Newfoundland (Avalon, Burin, and Bonavista Peninsulas, and Clarenville) in the next several days. Write-ups are more detailed closer to the storm. If there is the potential for a significant system in the long range (3-7 days), I will give a heads-up notification.
- Subscribers can email me anytime to ask about weather information.
- Storm timeline for St. John’s-Metro (and potentially other major locations) with 3 to 6-hourly breakdowns for major systems, including:
- Precipitation start/end times
- Precipitation amounts in each timeframe
- Expected wind gusts and any other significant weather
- Potential for school closures in eastern Newfoundland
- Flight disruptions for St. John’s, Halifax, Montreal, and Toronto over the next 5 days
- Regional breakdown of expected weather conditions during storm event
- Any potentially significant road conditions over the next several days
- Members will be notified of any systems meeting the following criteria:
- Snowfall, particularly above 5 cm
- Rainfall above 25 mm
- Freezing rain, lasting at least 3 hours
- Winds gusting above 80 km/h
- Wind chills below -20°C
In the past, my maps looked like a 5th grader drew them (sorry, 5th graders) but, starting this year, I will provide nicer maps for subscribers. A sample image is below.
The cost for the subscription for the 2024-25 winter season (November 1 through April 30, or longer as required) is $42 (inclusive of HST)
